Covid-19 Missive

Missive from their Excellencies:
To all and sundry,
In our last communication, we urged you to consider that times of crisis can also be times of opportunity and it is with this sentiment in mind that we write this missive.
Our people have been called to arms, called to arts and called to service for our beloved Kingdom- now we have an opportunity to put our hearts and hands to work for our country and community at large.
Requests have officially gone out by local governments and hospitals for hand-made masks to supplement and in some circumstances, replace the lack of medical supplies. They are simple, easy and will make a difference.
I know that many of you feel idle, fearful, frustrated- maybe even a little hopeless in this current situation of social distancing and quarantine. Now is the time to show your mettle, take up your well -oiled machines, scraps of cotton and bits of elastic and create these much-needed masks to make a difference.
I would ask you to follow the instructions found on this website, and to keep a tally of your creations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch…
Kalamazoo County is accepting masks will take them and prep them for disinfecting. Check with your local health department to see if/where they are accepting them. If not, send them to me and I’ll get them to those who need them.
Take pictures of the beautiful cotton fabrics your employ and share them with us. And for whoever makes a great number of masks, I will personally bake you a sumptuous prize of handmade, glistening baklava. I will present it to you at our earliest convenience and we will laugh and joyfully share it together.
I would ask all of our A&S Ministers to tally your counts and keep us abreast of the work our good people do. Please share this missive with whomever you wish. I hope to be busy making baklava for some time to come
And if some of you create artist masks as gifts for friends or family (which I know you are wont to do), I would love to see them and your artistry. However, for the health community let’s give them the simple, useable masks they ask for.
And with that, let the sewing begin!
Your Baron and Baroness, Raymond and Zubaida

Pennsic 2019 Camp forms

Hello! Here is the Andelcrag 2019 Camp Form for Pennsic!

If you have questions, please contact the camp mistress.

Here is the Google Doc form for the camp.

Please make sure to fill out the form entirely and get it back to your camp mistress ASAP!

Andelcamp 2019

Pennsic 2019

Welcome to Andelcamp!

We are looking forward to having a wonderful time with all of you at Pennsic 48.  We are also excited to be hosting our first Andelcamp Hafla as Baron and Baroness.

Everyone please provide you’re your tent info even if you have provided it before. We are trying to ensure that all info is accurate and up to date.  Thanks!

A word on tent sizes:

Please remember that each person is allowed 200 square feet.  If you are camping by yourself, you will be allotted only 200 square feet unless you registered an extra person or have a registered tent mate.  The 200 square feet must include the space your tent ropes take up.   But wait, I thought I got 250 square feet?

Yes, you are allotted 250 square feet but 50 feet of your space is needed for safe walkways, fire code rules (3 feet between each tent) and for the populace pavilion and kitchen/ shower trailer.  So, if you are one person and have a 10 x 20 tent (200 sq ft) without ropes (bell wedge, A-frame), you’re good but if you have ropes that need to go out 2 feet then really your tent footprint is 14 X 24 which becomes 336 sq ft.  If you have questions about your tent size, please email us!

The Camp Fee for this year $50 per adult, $15 per child 7-17 and six years and under are free. The $10 increase from last year is to pay for the wonderful populous tent that will set up and taken down for us.  (Such a relief) Your Camp Fee also covers community water, propane for hot water and torches, firewood, trailer fund and a continental breakfast Sat- Fri. of the second week (Coffee, juice, tea, rolls, fresh fruit, oatmeal and cold cereal, maybe more).  The kitchen will be available for cooking; you will need to clean it up when you’re done. If someone wants to volunteer to cook a meal for the camp, that can be arranged!

Mairghread Brightmore (Jamie Kipp) is your Camp Mistress this year.  Please help her to the best of your ability. Our Kitchen Steward is Seitz Kirbrich.  Thanks to both of you in advance.

Please let us know if you are going down for land grab, so we can plan accordingly. There are many advantages to going down early; you don’t have to wait at troll, your tent is already set up when you return the next weekend.  Set up includes putting up the kitchen/shower trailer, digging the midden, putting up walls, and other miscellaneous things.

Your Baron and Baroness will be camped in Andelcamp this year.

We will be arriving on Friday, July 26th for Land Grab.

Tear down will be Friday, August 9th after breakfast so the trailer can be packed and ready to go before everyone leaves on Saturday. If you are still in camp, please plan on helping.  Arriving late and leaving early to miss most of the work is not fair to those who are there for the full time; you get the benefits of camp and should be willing to contribute, if you must leave early (for work etc.), please let us know in advance and plan on assisting in other ways while you are at Pennsic.

**PLEASE NOTE**

Per the Pennsic Site guides : Groups have been earning 1 Land Point towards seniority for each year they camped on their block. Starting in 2015, they lose 1 point if anyone from their group is still on site after 12 noon Sunday, August 14, 2016.   With this in mind, the Camp Mistress will be the LAST person on our campsite to leave and she leaves on Saturday, August 10, 2016.

There are a very few rules;

*If you make a mess clean it up.

*Put cigarette butts in the trash or fire pit, not on the ground. Please keep smoking away from where the populace is.

*Food and/or drink left out attracts bugs, so don’t leave any around, even late at night or if you’re incapacitated.

* If we have a fire pit:  If you light the fire in the evening, you are responsible to tend it or to find someone who is willing to tend it for you. Otherwise, when you leave, make sure the fire is out.

*If it’s your turn to take out trash, help in kitchen, get ice, whatever, be on time and/or get it done.

*If you use the kitchen, clean up after yourself.

*Be nice and considerate to your camp neighbors, both in our camp and the other camps around us.  Remember sound travels easily through canvas…

Please fill out the attached forms completely and send them to us with your camp fee- camp fees MUST be paid prior to Pennsic. PayPal is the preferred method of payment- please send to raymonddanjou@yahoo.com, as a gift.  Checks can be made out to Channon Russette-Mondoux .  If you email your form, please save it with your name.

As with last year, if we have a volunteer to camp next to the Port-a-Johns, one adult Camp Fee will be waived.

May Missive from their Excellencies

Missive from the Baron and Baroness
May 8, 2018

It is May and we send out warm Spring wishes to the wonderful populace of Andelcrag! The weather is finally cooperating and events and activities in the Barony are beginning to emerge like flowers in the sun.
All hail our new Sovereigns Their Royal Majesties Alric and Katherine! Long live the King and Queen! Our deepest heartfelt thanks to the Kingdom’s newest Duke and Duchess — Cellach and Vukasin — for their wonderful reign and all they have done for the Middle Kingdom.
We hope to see all of you at the various fight practices, archery practices, music performances, A & S nights and events being held within our lands. Come and talk with us! The heart and soul of our Kingdom takes place at these local activities where we spend time together doing all the things we so enjoy doing. So get up and come on out!

Please join us at “It’s Only a Fletch Wound” Baronial Althing on May 12, 2018 at Muskegon Bowmen Archery Club. We are excited to determine our Champions for the coming year in the areas of Archery, Thrown Weapons, Fencing, Arts and Sciences, and Armored Combat. Once again we request that those gentles interested in serving as one of our Champions:
1. Bring with you an arts or sciences project to demonstrate your involvement in that aspect of the Society. Your project does not have to be new and will not have an impact on the Champion competition EXCEPT in the case of the A&S Champion (in which case it WILL) IF you are seeking to become A&S Champion we expect you to take part in a martial activity in some fashion. That participation could be marshalling, bearing water, shooting target archery, throwing weapons, competing in armored or rapier combat or some other idea.

2. Submit to us in advance OR bring with you on the day of the event a letter of recommendation from a member of the Baronial Populace describing your worthiness to be considered as a Champion.

We hope to have a lot of fun with our Champions and we want to thank all participants in advance.

Let all armored combatants, rapier combatants, thrown weaponists and archers prepare yourselves! There are rumors of trouble on the eastern borders of the glorious Barony of Andelcrag. Though we love our cousins of Northwoods dearly, there sometimes comes a time for strenuous discussion over matters of import. We feel that such a time is coming soon and call on all of you to help us make our arguments at Baronial Border War in June.

The smell of war on the wind also reminds us that Pennsic is coming quickly. Please be sure to register with The Barony of Andelcrag (you must pre- register to allocate your space to our camp ) so you can join us for all the fun that is Andlecamp. We have a very accommodating and fun camp with full amenities. Come and join us for Pennsic and help our new Majesties to make THEIR arguments as needed.

We continue to encourage everyone to be thinking about those members of the populace that you feel deserve recognition for their contributions to our Barony and Kingdom. Please bring those people to our attention and/or recommend them for awards.

A Gentle Reminder;
We are still seeking someone to fill the position of Baronial Historian a much needed roll that will help our illustrious barony live on forever- please see us soon if you are at all interested or curious of what it would mean.

April Missive from their Excellencies

As the weather begins to break and we prepare for the upcoming Pentamere A&S Faire this weekend hosted by our Canton of Nordheim (in Wyoming MI), we would like to share some of our thoughts with you.
We have begun to visit our Canton meetings and are excited to learn more about our populace, what will help you grow and prosper, and how we can assist toward that end. It is our intention to continue this process of attending Canton meetings on a rotating basis to spend time with each group and ensure that you all have access to us regularly.

Baronial Endeavors;
This month we would like to share with you two significant endeavors we wish to pursue.
The Baronial Historian
For any people to grow and prosper, they need to understand who they are, where they came from and what they are made of before deciding which direction to go. As part of our mission to increase the greatness and unity of our Barony, we are creating a position of “Baronial Historian”. This person will be asked to collect, preserve, promote and disseminate the history of our illustrious Barony. The people, events and stories of how we came to be. To preserve this information in text, song, and image in both the virtual and physical worlds.
If there is a group amongst you, we are happy to consider a league of historians who will work together to encourage the people of our Barony to share their memories, record them, a thereby enrich us all.
We invite the members of our barony to approach us or write to us at baronyofandelcrag@gmail.com with their desire to fulfill this role.

The Tur Kadir Oglu
As many of you know, Her Excellency Zubaida Qilichlu Qari bint Abed al Kadir (aka Hauviette) has pursued the study of the art of archery, combat and all things Turkish. In her studies, she came upon knowledge of a mighty egalitarian fighting force of the Caucasus mountains of Armenia and Turkey known in period as the Tur Kadir Oglu or “Sons of the Circle of Power”. This group is purported to survive to this day ,was witnessed by Pierre Bertrandon in the 15th Century

(The travels of Bertrandon de La Brocq́uière … to Palestine, and his return from Jerusalem overland to France, during the years 1432 & 1433). Bertrandon speaks of how women and men fought alongside each other, women wearing the “tarquais” or warriors belt and quiver. It is her desire to create a Baronial unit that will encompass traditional target archery, combat archery, rapier and thrown weapons that will collectively be known as the Tur Kadir Oglu.

Let it be known that all who wish to join us on the field, whether it be archery, combat archery, rapier, thrown weapons, siege weapons or support of troupes have a place in this unit. Our unofficial heraldry will be Sable, on a pile inverted throughout argent between two lightning bolts in chevron inverted Or, a Golden Hamsa (hand)
This unit (led by Her Excellency) will be the combat archery arm of the heavy weapons unit lead by His Excellency. It will be its own unit for rapier/cut and thrust activities as well as traditional archery. This means that they can function independently or together. It should also be known there is NO requirement to participate in this unit. Although we would love to have all of our people fight at least one battle together as a group at Pennsic, we understand that many of us have other loyalties we must fulfill.
We wish to welcome all of those who cannot or do not wish to engage in heavy weapons to consider how they can support the glorious Army of the Dragon by joining us for a battle or two at Pennsic or throughout the year at events, battles or practice for comradery.

The Illustrious Order of Baklava
As Her Excellency recognizes that her name and title can be foreign to the tongue of many, she wishes to extend this offer;
If a subject of the Barony of Andelcrag addresses Her Excellency completely without hesitation or falter, in full they will be included in the Illustrious Order of Baklava, to be inducted at the Baronial Border War or the Baronial Allthing as she sees fit. This induction will entail being offered a piece of Her Excellencies home-made baklava of varying flavors and styles to be shared amongst all of the other members of the order. There may be Turkish coffee or sharbat served as well (TBD).
Title; Zubaida Hanimevali = Baroness Zubaida
Name to be addressed- Zubaida Qilichlu Qari bint Abed al Kadir = Zubaida Woman with a Sword daughter of Abed of the Region of Kadir

Pronunciation;
Zoo- bay- duh Hah-nim-meh-wall-ee
Zoo- bay- duh Kee-leech-loo Kar-ee bint Ah-bed al Kah-deer

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you this weekend;

Baron Raymond d’Anjou and Zubaida Hanimevali

March Missive from their Excellencies

Missive from the Baron and Baroness
March 2, 2018
Greetings to the wonderful populace of Andelcrag!  As the weather begins to improve we are looking forward to upcoming events taking place in our Barony.
We are eagerly awaiting the Pentamere Regional Arts and Sciences Faire hosted by our great Canton of Nordheim on April 14 and hope to see you all there.
We would also like to encourage everyone to join us at It’s Only a Fletch Wound / Baronial Althing on May 12, 2018 at Muskegon Bowmen Archery Club.  At the Althing, we will be selecting our Champions for the coming year in the areas of Archery, Fencing, Arts and Sciences, and Armored Combat.  We request that those gentles interested in serving as one of our Champions:

We want to thank everyone in advance for your participation and we look forward to a fun year with our Champions.

IMPORTANT:   Their Royal Highnesses have requested assistance from the Baronies of the Middle Kingdom to help the Pennsic effort in the form of taxes.
The following is from Their Royal Highnesses:
Greetings to your Exellencies of the Midrealm.
At Kingdom 12th night we spoke with the landed barons in attendance regarding a few of the expectations we have for this coming Pennsic.
It is our intention to…Tax the baronies, and as His Excellency Ermenrich so aptly put it We will be taxing the baronies for:
Booze
Benches
Bodies
Banners
1: Benches. We would ask that each Barony provide to Pennsic Royal two benches for sitting. The benches should be able to hold 4-6 people and will be brought to Royal by opening ceremonies, and removed from Royal by closing ceremonies. It is our hope that there will be no need for the shabby plastic folding chairs in Royal, and by providing this tax there will be no need. We encourage the baronies to decorate these benches to show the glory of Our great Dragon’s baronies. Perhaps the finest benches will be positioned closer to the thrones in royal.
2: Booze. In celebration of the fast and deep commitment of our Allies Aethelmearc. They declared for us very early, and we would celebrate and support such commitment. It is our intention to ask our baronies to bring a bit of Booze as a donation to Aetehlmearc for use in the party they have planned for Pennsic. The type of Alchohol is completely up to you and your populace.
3: Bodies. We are starting a new division for the Midrealm Army.
The Engineering core. The engineering core will be comprised of individuals who desire to serve the Midrealm army. We are hoping for a minimum of 20 people, their main function will be to move Hay Bales and help set up the field for each armored and fencing battle. It is our intent to present this designated group of individuals to the Pennsic battlefield staff with the understanding that their main focus is to aid the Pennsic staff with any and all battlefield support. We seek to tax you for volunteers to fill these positions. Some baronies do not have large battlefield levies, this allows for each barony to directly have a hand in support of the Pennsic war effort.
4: Banners. Our commanders have a hard time seeing your glorious armies on the field. With this in mind it is Our intent that each barony provide two banners One battlefield and one display, and one designated banner carrier. The banner carrier will be responsible for carrying the banner in the battles. Our generals will be using your banners as identifiers and rally points for troops, so make them appropriate battle banners. The display banners will be hung in Midrealm Royal. A dimensional requirement will be presented to each of you, based on how our Camp Coordinator suggests.
We would like to take this time to thank each of you ahead of time. Our goal is to celebrate the greatness and camaraderie of the Midrealm. Your taxes are hopefully not too egregious, and will easily meet our expectations.
Alric and Katherine, Prince and Princess of the Midrealm.
DRACO INVICTUS!

Pennsic will be coming before we know it, so we wish to begin on these projects as soon as possible. Toward that end, we ask those gentles willing to assist in these efforts to contact us so that we can begin to coordinate.  Thank you in advance! Duke Gavin has already graciously offered to construct the two Andelcrag benches for us.  Thank you so much, Your Grace.
We also want to encourage everyone to be thinking about those members of the populace that you feel deserve recognition for their exemplary contributions to our Barony and Kingdom.  Please bring those people to our attention and/or recommend them for awards.
